Hands portraits rival the face as a way to show a persons’ character. Any time I’m doing a portrait session, I try to get at a least a few hand photos in.  They can be incredibly expressive both alone or as part of a portrait.

Hand portraits – just the hands –  can be compelling.  At a local festival, I found these hands and the hair were very expressive – carefree and whimsical.  The hands seem gentle and expressive.

My photographic goal is to send a message, a mood or an impression.  How the viewer chooses to receive it might be the opposite of my intention, and that is the serendipity of art.

In Adobe Lightroom, I increased Clarify for sharpness and contrast an reduced Highlights to bring down the hot spots.
