Art School Forever – Human Creativity as a Lifelong Practice
Art School Forever is the blog associated with the Film Sometimes website. This is where I examine my creative process, one photo, artwork, experiment, or encounter at a time.
I write about how a work came about; What attracted my attention, what I was trying to do, the techniques and materials I used, the editing decisions I made, the tools and equipment involved, what went wrong, and what I learned along the way.
Discussions include fine-art photography, painting, mixed media, travel, workshops, teaching, collaborations, and the occasional act of mad visual science. Travel is part of the practice because unfamiliar places change what I notice. Water, landscapes, cities, museums, people, cultures, and unexpected encounters all become part of the continuing education.
Art School Forever is also where I explore the larger philosophy behind my visual practice: why making things matters to me, how creativity helps sustain wonder and gratitude, and why learning should remain a lifelong activity.
The goal of Art School Forever is not to produce the perfect masterpiece, obtain an advanced degree, and then declare myself complete. I am here to explore, learn, and experience—to use art as a meditative practice that enhances my life.
Art School Forever is a practice, not a goal.
The blog supports the Film Sometimes website, where I present finished works and collections. Together, they create a record of both the work and the life surrounding it, with the hope of encouraging conversation, collaboration, and continued learning.
