About FIlm Sometimes
Film Sometimes is dedicated to the joy of the visual arts. Mostly it's photos. Sometimes it's drawings or prints, and sometimes it's film, hence the name.
Here we talk about art and artsy stuff along with cameras and photographic technique. Poke around and you can find fun photos of dogs and people being awesome. There's also things that drip, and sharp, pointy things if we find them visually stimulating. Sometimes there's ghosts, too. Don't be afraid. All of the ghosts photographed here were alive when the shutter clicked. We don't know what happened to them after that and we aren't responsible for them after they leave the studio anyway. Really, we wouldn't kid you about that. They're not real ghosts. Really.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Steve Schultz is a slacker, photographer and artist who lives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in the 50's, he is a child of the 60's who came of age in the 70's, which goes to say that he's a total mess, just like pretty much everyone from that era. He escapes from the disappointment and lost ideals of his generation through art, photography and nature. Sometimes he also writes silly bio pieces about himself for his website in the third person point of view even though he's sure you know he's writing it himself. We aren't going to mention anything about the liberal use of the 'Royal We' even though he is the only person who is actually writing this drivel.
As an avid scuba diver and former instructor, he spent many hours escaping from the nonsensical surface world and merciless bullies by hiding underwater, and because of this his work often involves submersion and things that drip. Steve's work is also strongly influenced by anything he can steal from artists past, present and future. He uses art as his defense against the random, meaningless stupidity that he encounters in the everyday waking world. And PTSD from the bullies. There's always that.
In his own words, 'Art is defiance.'
ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER
After retiring from many years of technology consulting, where successfully pretended to work at some of the most prestigious corporations in the world, Steve now spends his time volunteering and working on personal projects at home and at the Fleisher Art Memorial, a community art center founded in Philadelphia in the late 1800's. There, he supports the other artists in the darkroom and print studios. He is always looking for vintage, manual film cameras to donate to new film students.
CREDITS
Steve's work and writings have appeared in random galleries, magazines, books and websites over the years. Many barely saw the light of day, but you'd recognize others. We could tell you more, but that would be bragging.
His work has also appeared in small art shows and minor galleries. He's not highly motivated to change this, but you can always ask him if you want to show some of it.
PRINTS
Steve loves to sell prints. If you see a photo of his and want a signed, numbered, limited-series print, feel free to email him. Use the email address at the bottom of the page, but take out the spaces around the @ symbol. Steve put them in because he doesn't like SPAM emails and this will help keep bots from skimming his address from the site. Steve thinks he's kind of slick that way, but it probably won't work.
