About FIlm Sometimes
Film Sometimes is dedicated to the joy of the visual arts. Mostly it's photos. Sometimes it's drawings or prints, and sometimes it's film, hence the name. If you're lucky you will see some 'mixed up media' - not quite as professional as mixed media, but you get what you pay for.
The subtext of this site is that creating art, be it by hand, digitally, or something in between, is an essential and unique element of being human, and this is a process that I have decided to take into my retirement as a way to stay human, even as the world seems to be pulling us into a demoralizing, impersonal, digital wasteland where art, discourse, and intelligence are becoming way too artificial for me.
Art School Forever, the attached blog, is an occasional discussion of individual photos, equipment and personal disciplines that are intended to keep me attentive to the beauty that is around me and productive as an artist.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Steve is a photographer and artist - and a world class slacker - who lives near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Born in the 50's, he is a child of the 60's who came of age in the 70's, which goes to say that he's a total mess, just like pretty much everyone from that era. He escapes from the disappointment and lost ideals of his generation through art, photography and nature. Sometimes he also writes silly bio pieces about himself for his website in the third person point of view even though he's sure you know he's writing it himself. We aren't going to mention anything about the liberal use of the 'Royal We' even though he is the only person who is actually writing this drivel.
As an avid scuba diver, he spent many hours escaping from the nonsensical surface world by hiding underwater and because of this, his work often involves submersion and things that drip. Or sometimes just the light that happens along when he has a camera in hand.
ILLUSTRIOUS CAREER
After retiring from many years of technology consulting, where he successfully pretended to work at some of the largest corporations in the world, Steve now spends his time taking classes, volunteering, and working on personal projects at local arts centers. He also makes it a point to complain about kids today and tell people to get off his lawn.
CREDITS
Steve's work and writings have appeared in random galleries, magazines, books and websites over the years. His work has also appeared in small art shows and minor galleries. He's not highly motivated to change this, but you can always ask him if you want to show some of it, or buy a print. His email is around here somewhere...
